| Traditional
timber frame
construction
uses the centuries
old craft of
wooden joinery.
In general,
timber
frame
houses feature
a large
amount
of natural light.
This is
made
possible through
the use
of full
height combinations
of
windows in
great rooms
and
living areas,
which would
not be
possible
in a conventional
home.

Timber frame
was the most
widely used
form of construction
from the 15th
to the 18th
centuries, noted
for durability
as well as its
beauty. In an
authentic timber
frame home,
the complete
frame is comprised
of a series
of connected
bents. Bents
are a complete
framework assembled
from posts & beams.
A configuration
of rafters,
girts, posts,
and bracing
serve as a structural
unit. Typically,
bents are assembled
flat on the
ground and then
raised up as
one unit, with
most homes having
three or four
bents. Construction
using a series
of bents is
still the most
common from
of timber framing
today. Many
thousands of
timber frame
buildings that
were well built
long ago survive
today, and their
level of sophistication
and craftsmanship
is still extraordinary
by any standards.
Our plans ensure
full compliance
with all Uniform/National
Building Code
specifications
and are modified
as required
to meet local
building department
guidelines.
